Coach Profile - James Streater
- 2009 UK Masters Slopestyle Champion
Jay
has been riding for over 10 years. His first lesson was on a dendex slope in
Scotland. Once he got back to London he enrolled in a learn to ride and teach
programme at Hemel Ski Centre. Luckily this was under the guidance of one of
the founding fathers of snowboarding in the UK, Rob Needham.
Just like a parent shaping a child's life, Rob and the associated posse instilled
a true sense of love for snowboarding and how much fun it can be.
After teaching part-time for a few years, he headed off for his first couple
of seasons in Chamonix. Following the freedom of riding all day
with
no responsibilities it was time to make the snowboarding pay.
This resulted in heading to the breading ground of riders like Danny Kass, Pat
Moore and Todd Richards and hitting up the East Coast of the States. He managed
to mix it up with the future kids of world snowboarding under the watchful eyes
of Travis Moore from SASS,
and Travis Capobianco. They opened his mind to different ideas of snowboard
coaching and pushed his technical riding to the limit.
After a couple of years with those guys it was back to the UK to apply all he
had learnt to the UK market, and so Maverix Snow Camp was born.
